Staff Bios

Kermit A. Crawford, Ph.D. (Director) is a clinical psychologist who received his doctorate from Boston College. He is a designated forensic psychologist and researcher. He is also director of the Center for Multicultural Mental Health (CMMH) of Boston University School of Medicine and Boston Medical Center. Dr. Crawford has done extensive work in multicultural behavioral health disaster response, trauma and grief, substance abuse and co-morbid disorders. Dr. Crawford is a member of the Advisory Board for the American Psychological Association Minority Fellowship Program. He is a member of the Behavioral Health Disaster Response Cadre of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Dr. Crawford is of African-American descent and is an alumnus of CMTP

Mari C. Bennasar, Psy.D. (Associate Director) is a clinical psychologist with a psychodynamic background and specialty training and experience in Behavioral Medicine. Dr. Bennasar received her doctorate from Nova Southeastern University in Florida and is an alumna of CMTP. Dr. Bennasar completed her post-doctoral study at Harvard Medical School, Cambridge Hospital and conducted cultural competence research in the department of Social Medicine. She is bi-lingual (Spanish/English) and bi-cultural (a native of the Dominican Republic).


Connie S. Chan, Ph.D. (Primary Supervisor/Core Faculty) is a clinical psychologist with a specialization in the psychology of Asian-American culture, sexuality and multicultural issues. She received her doctorate from Boston University. Dr. Chan is Professor in the College of Public and Community Service at the University of Massachusetts at Boston and is a nationally recognized expert on culturally competent mental health practice. Dr. Chan has been associate editor of Professional Psychology: Research and Practice, a fellow of the American Psychological Association and serves on many advisory boards. Dr. Chan also had the distinction of being selected as the Nike Corporation poster person for the 2003 Boston Marathon. Dr. Chan is Chinese-American and is bilingual in Cantonese/English.

Olivia Moorehead-Slaughter, Ph.D. (Primary Supervisor/Core Faculty) is a clinical psychologist with specialization in child and forensic psychology. She received her doctorate from University of Denver. She is current Chairperson-elect (2006) of the American Psychological Association Ethics Committee, and is former Chairperson of the Massachusetts Board of Registration for Psychologists. She also Chaired the APA Presidential Task Force on Psychological Ethics and National Security (2005). Dr. Moorehead-Slaughter has consulted with a number of federal, state and local agencies. She has managed several behavioral health programs. Dr. Moorehead-Slaughter is psychologist at the Park School (nursery through ninth grade independent school) in Brookline, Massachusetts. She is of African-American descent.
